The Department of Music (MUS) provides an excellent environment for the training of professional musicians, in the areas of music theory, composition, performance and music education.
The staff members in the Department are specialised in areas of electro-acoustic music, performance, musicology, music education, choral and instrumental conducting, composition and theory, and others. In addition, we also have over fifty part-time adjunct lecturers who are outstanding music professionals principally assigned to teach instruments and voice on individual basis.
Performing groups such as the Baptist University Choir, Baptist University Girls' Choir, Baptist University Chamber Orchestra and the Contemporary Music Workshop present regular concerts at the campus and at other public venues. The newly formed Baptist University Band gave its first successful concert at the end of the 1996/97 academic year, marking a new phase of development for performance within the Department.
Research output of music staff members has been high, with compositions performed and journal articles published either locally and internationally. There have also been significant contributions by performers and conductors of the Department. Regular contact with scholars from overseas and Chinese institutions enables staff members and students to have first-hand information on the latest trend of teaching, learning and research in various music disciplines. |
