The Service Learning Programme

The Service Learning Programme that aims to provide students with work training in the field has been implemented for years with very encouraging feebacks from both our partner institutions and the students. Financial assistance is provided for approved institutions and successful applicants. Every year,  there are a good number of students showing interests in the programme. Both the partner institutions and the students have been very positive about the Service Learning Programme.

SUMMER STUDY TOURS

Lanzhou-Dunhuang Study Tour

“Lanzhou-Dunhuang Study Tour” is a special joint program co-organized by the Department of Religion and Philosophy, HKBU and the School of History and Culture, Lanzhou University.

The eight-day Tour offers a unique opportunity through which students learn about and experience a variety of religious and intra-cultural traditions. Because of the special location of Northwestern China, students are able to be more aware of some sociological and ethnographic issues such as religion and ethnicity, modernity and secularization in the “minority” concentrated area.

Highlights of the trip include the Islamic culture in “Little Mecca,” the sacred Kumbum Monastery, the Jiayu Fortress of the Great Wall, and the world-famous Mogao Grottoes (Dunhuang). A CD about the entire trip was made and a post-tour collection of students’ essay was published by Lanzhou University in each previous tour. Students taking “RELI 4780 Religions in Northwestern China Today” are required to join this trip and do extra course work.
