1. Objectives
The scholarship is established to honour the memory of Prof. Martha Cheung, by providing a one-off grant to one outstanding PhD applicant per year, to support them in pursuing research in Translation Studies in the Translation Programme at Hong Kong Baptist University.2. Criteria of Eligibility
- This is an entry scholarship. The candidate must be a new entrant to the PhD programme, accepted as regular UGC-funded PhD student. Students accepted under the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme and regular UGC-funded students already studying in the Programme are not eligible.
- Criteria such as existing research output, academic qualifications and so forth, will be assessed.
- Candidates in any area of Translation Studies (in a broad sense, including Interpreting Studies and Intercultural Studies) are eligible.
- The candidate will be required to provide a formal acknowledgement of the assistance provided by the scholarship in their PhD thesis.
3. Allocation and Term of Scholarship
- This is a one-off scholarship, awarded as a lump sum. It is intended to provided a significant top-up to the awardee's regular UGC studentship.
- The value of the scholarship will be set at a maximum of HK$50,000. This amount will be periodically reviewed in the light of available funding levels.
- Payment will be made in two instalments, the first paid in Semester 1, the second in Semester 2 of the first year of PhD study.
- One scholarship will be awarded every year, subject to the the discretion of the Programme Admissions Committee (who may choose not to award, should there be no suitable candidate).
